The 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course (Initial and Periodic Electrical Inspection and Testing) is designed to enable candidates to understand principles, practices and legislation necessary for conducting initial verification and periodic inspection of electrical installations. It covers both statutory and non-statutory regulations and requirements, aligning with the industry qualification for inspecting and testing wiring systems BS7671. This course replaces the previous 2394/95 qualifications.
The 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course is currently required in order to gain your ECS Card graded as an approved Electrician.
Our 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course (Initial and Periodic Electrical Inspection and Testing) is designed for candidates who need to obtain the knowledge and certification necessary for both periodic inspection and testing, as well as initial verification of new electrical installation systems.
What is the course?
The 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course (Initial and Periodic Electrical Inspection and Testing) training covers all the specific methods for inspection and testing installations. Our training combines both theory and practical skills, including a detailed breakdown on how to complete certification and reports. Throughout the course, participants will reference Guidance Note 3.

- Safety of systems and equipment before completing inspection, testing and commissioning.

- Commissioning electrotechnical systems and equipment
- Requirements for inspecting, testing, and recording the condition of electrical installations
- Requirements for completing the periodic inspection of electrical installations
- The differences between periodic inspections and initial verifications
- Requirements for safely testing electrical installations that are already in service
- Understand and interpret test results
- Requirements for the completion of electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation
- How to confirm safety of the system and equipment before completion of inspection, testing, and commissioning
- How to inspect electrical installations before they are placed into service
- How to test electrical installations before they are placed into service
- How to produce a condition report by recording observations and classifications
The 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course (Initial and Periodic Electrical Inspection and Testing) is delivered over 5 days.
At the end of your course, you will complete a 60-question online multiple-choice exam. The exam is open book and lasts for 120 minutes. Our team can support you with any exam requirements or adjustments you may need (evidence may be required)
You will also undertake a written assignment lasting 80 minutes, comprising of 4 short-answer questions.

In addition, you will need to successfully complete a 2.5-hour practical assessment, which includes conducting a full initial verification and periodic inspection of a 3-phased electrical installation. You will also be required to complete all appropriate documentation.

The 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course (Initial and Periodic Electrical Inspection and Testing) is designed for practicing electricians who are currently working within the Electrical Industry and are experienced installers. All candidates must be over 18 years old.
